Year 2

Overview- Spring Term

 

English - Year 2 will be focussing on Traditional Tales with a twist in the Spring term as well as newspaper report and play scripts. They will be taught all about homophones and ensuring that the children can read and spell most of the Year ½ common exception words.

  1. - In Maths Year 2 will be looking at data, they will be collecting data and putting it into a tally chart, they will also be extracting information from block graphs and pictograms. They will be looking at different 3D shapes and how they relate to everyday objects. The children will also be taught how to estimate, and then this will link into measuring so that they can estimate the length of different objects and also they can estimate how long different activities will take them to complete. The Year 2 children will also be cementing their knowledge of the 2, 3, 4 and 5 times tables.

Science – Year 2 will be looking at materials in the first ½ of the term, they will be taught what different objects are made out of how and they will be doing some exciting investigations. During the latter part of the term they will be plants, they will investigate how plants are formed, what they need to survive and they will be naming and labelling all the different parts of plants.

Theme- During the 1st ½ term Year 2 will be learning about famous people such as Rosa Parks, Tim Berners-Lee and Vincent Van Gogh. They will be look at Geography at the latter part of the term and they will be focussing on ‘Our Local Area’ and learning about physical and human features.
