Autumn Term 2026

This term our topic is All about us!

 

A very warm welcome to Reception! We are delighted to begin this exciting journey with your child as they settle into school life and discover all the wonderful learning opportunities that the Autumn term has to offer.

Throughout the term, our learning will begin with ‘All About Me’, helping children to explore who they are, what makes them unique and what makes them feel happy, sad and safe. We will talk about trusted adults, who we can go to when we need help, and how we can look after ourselves and others. We will explore friendships, learning what it means to be a good friend, how we can support one another, celebrate our differences and work together as a team.

As the children settle into Reception, they will become familiar with our school routines and expectations. Our school core values of Care, Respect and Honesty will be at the heart of everything we do, helping children to develop positive relationships, confidence and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

We will share a range of exciting and engaging core texts, including Aliens Love Underpants, Lady Godiva’s Birthday Suit, The Leaf Thief, Room on the Broom, Pumpkin Soup and Stick Man. These stories will inspire our conversations, imagination, vocabulary, early reading and writing, as well as providing opportunities for creative and practical learning.

The children will also enjoy some special experiences throughout the term, including a live theatre experience, giving them the opportunity to enjoy and respond to a performance beyond the classroom.

Reception children will also take part in 10 ‘Tizz Time’ sessions, supporting our trauma-informed approach to helping children understand how to feel safe, recognise emotions and develop strategies for managing their feelings within their environment.

As we move through Autumn, we will encourage children to become curious about the natural world, observing and commenting on the changes they see as the seasons change. We will explore our environment and notice changes in plants, trees, weather and wildlife.

We will also celebrate and learn about a range of religious, cultural and seasonal celebrations, helping children to appreciate and respect the similarities and differences within our community. This will include dedicated RE days alongside learning about Bonfire Night, Diwali, Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas.

Above all, our Autumn term will be about helping every child to feel happy, safe, valued and excited to learn. We look forward to watching their confidence grow as they make new friends, develop their independence and begin their exciting Reception adventure!
