Year One

Year One is an exciting step into more structured learning, carefully designed to nurture confident readers, inquisitive thinkers and resilient learners. Our curriculum balances strong subject knowledge with rich, memorable experiences so that every child feels included, inspired and able to achieve highly.

Across the year, children explore big questions, deepen their understanding of the world and continue to build the secure foundations needed for success throughout school.

Autumn Term – Explorers and Explorations

Autumn invites children to step into the role of explorers—curious, brave and ready to discover. Throughout this term, pupils build key learning habits, strengthen early reading and writing, and begin to engage more deeply with the world around them.

Spring Term – Blowing Hot and Cold

Spring takes children across the globe as they explore contrasting climates and cultures. This term is full of awe, discovery and opportunities for deeper thinking.

Summer Term – Our City of Culture

In Summer, children turn their attention closer to home, learning about the rich history, creativity and cultural identity of Coventry. This term builds pride, belonging and a strong sense of community.

By the End of Year One

Children leave Year One as increasingly fluent readers, confident mathematicians and thoughtful, curious young citizens. They have explored the world around them—and their place within it—with ambition, creativity and joy.
