Year Four

Year Four is a year filled with discovery, challenge and growing independence. Children expand their understanding of the ancient world, explore how different cultures shape our lives today and develop the confidence to express themselves with clarity and imagination. Our curriculum is designed to ensure every learner feels valued, capable and empowered to achieve excellence.

Below is a term-by-term overview of the rich and sequenced learning journey pupils experience.

Autumn Term – Groovy Greeks

Autumn immerses pupils in the captivating world of Ancient Greece—a civilisation whose ideas still shape society today. This theme invites deep thinking, creativity and strong links across reading, writing, history and the arts.

By the end of Autumn, pupils demonstrate growing independence, strong cultural awareness and a deep fascination with ancient civilisations.

Spring Term – A Taste of Italy

Spring introduces children to the world of the Romans and their remarkable impact on Britain. This term blends history, geography, science and creativity to give children a deeper perspective on cultural change and global influence.

By the end of Spring, pupils understand how cultures evolve, how empires shape societies, and how scientific and historical ideas connect across time.

Summer Term – Belonging

Summer brings learning closer to home as children explore Coventry’s unique history, cultural identity and the many ways we belong to communities. This uplifting term strengthens pride, empathy and a deeper understanding of themselves and others.

By the end of Year Four, pupils have a strong sense of identity, community and global awareness. They move into upper KS2 ready to lead, question, create and contribute.
