British Values

Every Child. Every Day. Every Chance.

At Templars, British Values are not taught as a standalone topic — they are lived every day through our relationships, curriculum, leadership opportunities and school community.

Our vision is to create a place where everyone is proud to belong; where every child feels welcomed, safe and able to achieve their full potential.

The concept of belonging sits at the heart of everything we do.

What are British Values?

At Templars we actively promote:

🗳️ Democracy
⚖️ Rule of Law
🕊️ Individual Liberty
🤝 Mutual Respect
🌍 Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

These values help prepare children for life in modern Britain and empower them to become thoughtful, respectful and active citizens.

Our Values Bring British Values to Life

❤️ CARE

We care for ourselves, others and our community.

🤝 RESPECT

We celebrate difference and ensure everyone belongs.

⭐ HONESTY

We encourage responsibility, reflection and doing the right thing.

These values underpin our relational approach to behaviour and our commitment to creating a kind, inclusive and ambitious school culture.

How Children Experience British Values at Templars

🗳️ Democracy – Every Voice Matters

Children have meaningful opportunities to influence school life through:

• School Council
• Junior Leadership Team
• Pupil School Improvement Team
• Anti-Bullying Ambassadors
• Digital Leaders
• PE Leadership Roles

Leadership positions are applied for through a fair and democratic process and pupils learn that their voices can create positive change.

⚖️ Rule of Law – Rights and Responsibilities

Children learn that rules and laws help keep communities safe and fair.

This is taught through:
• Our relational behaviour approach
• Restorative conversations
• PSHE and RE lessons
• Visits from police and community leaders
• Learning about rights, responsibilities and justice

Children are supported to understand choices, consequences and accountability.

🕊️ Individual Liberty – Growing Independence

We encourage children to think independently, make informed choices and develop confidence.

Children are supported to:
• express opinions respectfully
• develop self-belief
• challenge themselves
• take responsibility
• become resilient learners

🤝 Mutual Respect & 🌍 Tolerance

Everyone belongs at Templars.

Through our curriculum, assemblies and wider experiences children learn:
• to value diversity
• to understand different beliefs and cultures
• to challenge stereotypes
• to appreciate similarities and differences

Our No Outsiders Statement reflects this commitment.
