Year Five
Year Five is a year of challenge, curiosity and growing independence. Pupils explore ancient civilisations, outer space and the diverse cultures of the Americas—developing the deep knowledge, critical thinking and confidence needed for success in upper Key Stage 2 and beyond. Our curriculum celebrates ambition, nurtures creativity and ensures that every learner feels included, valued and capable of excellence.
Below is an overview of the exciting journey children take through the year.
Autumn Term – Historical Horrors
Autumn immerses pupils in the dramatic and decisive events that shaped early Britain: the Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Normans. This theme brings together history, geography, reading and writing in a powerful exploration of cultural change and national identity.

By the end of Autumn, pupils understand how history shapes identity and feel confident expressing informed opinions.
Spring Term – To Infinity and Beyond
Spring takes learning into the cosmos. Pupils investigate the science of space, the history of exploration and the mysteries of our universe—combining STEM, literature and creativity in a term full of wonder.

By the end of Spring, pupils demonstrate curiosity, scientific confidence and strong creative thinking.
Summer Term – La La La Americas
Summer explores the vibrant cultures, landscapes and histories of North and South America, with a particular focus on the Mayans and the rainforests. This term expands children’s global awareness, empathy and environmental understanding.

By the end of Year Five, pupils are confident, articulate and globally minded learners—ready to embrace the challenge and responsibility of Year Six.
