Year 3

During the Summer term we used our knowledge of pneumatics to create our own maze game. We chose our own theme and were given a criteria to follow. We investigated current games that were already on the market which gave us some ideas for our own maze. We then designed and created our own maze using a variety of materials. Our evaluations were fun because we had the opportunity to play each other's and discuss how we could make improvements for the player.

As part of our learning about leisure and entertainment through time, we learnt about food and nutrition through looking at the ingredients, that when mixed together, make a yorkshire pudding. We discussed the benefits of eating a healthy, balanced diet and learnt about different foods that are in each of the food groups. We then designed and created our own yorkshire pudding recipe and made some tasty puddings to eat! Our evaluations were very positive!

During our learning about Greece, we studied how Greeks made vases out of clay. We researched some of the shapes and designs that they used to create their pots and vases and used their ideas for inspiration for our own. We used clay to create our own pots and evaluated them.

As part of our Stone Age topic in the Autumn term, we made our own Stone Age jewellery out of salt dough. We looked at existing costume jewellery that we could buy in the shops now and magpied some ideas for our own designs. We then compared jewellery in the Stone Age to jewellery now, and incorporated some of the shapes and styles into our own creations. Some of the challenges we faced was making sure the salt dough could attach and stay attached onto the string. This was something that was addressed in our evaluations. We had lots of fun and loved giving our jewellery pieces to someone special at home.
