Welcome to Year 5
We hope you all had a relaxing Summer! We are so excited to welcome you into the very top end of Templars and the last phase of your time at primary school! This is certainly a thrilling time with you belonging to the group of pupils that we turn to as role models for the younger students. Whilst extremely exciting, we know that starting Year 5 is a big step and might seem a bit daunting! But don't worry- we believe in every single one of you and know that each day you will surprise yourselves with just what you can achieve! So long as you bring your best selves to school with those positive mindsets and huge smiles every single day, there is no end to what you might discover about our world and yourselves! The Year 5 team are your personal cheerleaders, supporting you all the way to your goals and here to pick you up and encourage you when things get tough. If you ask nicely, we may even get some pom-poms!
Get ready to make us proud!
In Year 5 we will go on a tremendous learning journey together! We will start in Anglo Saxon England before travelling through the Scandinavian lands of the Vikings. There might even be a visit to a castle or two! After Christmas, our journey will soar through the skies and take us into the mysterious realms of galaxies far and wide as we uncover the secrets of space! Finally, we will return to our feet being firmly on Earth....just the other side of it! We will study the ancient civilisations of South America such as the Aztecs and Mayans, as well as the vast, luscious expanses of rainforest that exist in this part of the world throughout the Summer. You will even get to tread your own path through the exotic greenery of a real rainforest at The Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Year 5 children absolutely love Maths! This is the year when the numbers get larger and your knowledge really starts to widen. You are sure to impress your family with the skills and methods you will learn. You will be pointing out angles, shapes and calculating measurements and money wherever you go in no time at all! We also enjoy writing using Sentence Stacking in Year 5 and we can't wait to see the stories, newspaper reports, poems and double paged spreads that you will create! We celebrate fantastic readers in Year 5 and will share our own books with you during our reading lessons. However, please send us your recommendations based on what you have enjoyed reading at home too: teachers always need books to read! We hope you enjoy your new reading records to document the amazing reading you do at home!
Every Child, Every Day, Every Chance!
Remember- you are all this child, you can all make a difference every day, and we will give all of you every single chance to be the very best version of yourself.
